Our garden looks barren compared to last year’s lush landscape. Four of the raised beds are empty. The carrots, onions, and garlic did poorly, and I pulled the cabbage and snap peas a few months ago. On the other hand, the tuscan kale and bush beans are thriving, and the newer dinosaur kale looks like it might survive.
I noticed a feral cat sniffing around one of the empty beds one morning, and little holes dug in the soil. Not a good sign — we probably should cover the unused beds with mesh/screen. With the baby, it is currently hard to carve out time to tend the beds, but I still try to do what I can in 15-minute spurts here and there…

Still looks good and
You can’t do everything
I really admire your raised beds and layout, Cheri. I am thinking about building some and like the height of yours and the wide rows between.
Thanks! The team that landscaped our lot built these — I love them and the height is great. We have 10 total (went overboard, but at the design stage I don’t think I was thinking… for our needs, 3-4 would’ve sufficed). It’s been a great place for Emilia to explore, too — like a little maze.
